TII pioneers the sector also on environmental issues
TII published its Environmental Policy that almost all companies of the developed countries have and which is acknowledged as the first step in establishing the consciousness on environment (www.tsev.org.tr). TII Environmental Policy not only covers the measures to reduce the carbon emissions released to the atmosphere but also is qualified to lead the establishment of an insurance sector sensitive to the environmental issues and operates according to the international standards.
Based on its Environmental Policy, TII prepared its own “environmental report card”. According to the report card, prepared with respect to the carbon emissions released to the atmosphere, TII has to plant approximately 75 trees every year in order to offset its carbon emissions. Currently, TII plants one tree for every graduate of Basic Insurance Training Programme (95 trees) and from now on, it is decided to plant one tree for every three-hours of other training programmes. As a result, TII will forest well above (approximately 250-300 trees) the level of carbon emissions that it releases to the atmosphere.
In addition to its Environmental Policy, TII is taking its activities and cooperation on environment to the international level. In this framework, TII establishes common grounds of action with international organizations and initiatives such as UN Environmental Programme Finance Initiative with different activities as well as through deciding to adopt the principles of UN Global Compact.
TII organized an in-house training for its own staff on global warming as a part of its Environmental Policy. The training has begun with the presentation of TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel Oksay on the emergence of global warming, its impact to the world in general and to the insurance sector in particular. Following Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel Oksay, International Relations Unit Expert Özge Zihnioðlu have explained the current measures adopted as well as the actions to be taken in the future, TII’s international cooperation on this issue and TII Environmental Policy. Already taking all the measures in power and water consumption, TII staff had a general discussion on the future actions of TII on environment and on the role TII will assume in insurance sector.

TII Turkish Music Chorus has begun the rehearsals
TII Turkish Music Chorus, composed of participants from all areas of the insurance sector has begun its rehearsals. TII gets the insurance sector together with joy and happiness in the charm of music during its rehearsals after working hours.
TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel Oksay, also a member of the chorus, expressed her satisfaction about the rehearsal: “Music nourishes the soul. Our Institute provides an environment in which the insurance sector can spend joyful time away from the stress during their time after the heavy working hours. Apart from the insurance companies, the members of our chorus include brokers, agents and loss adjusters. The music to which you listen reflects upon your soul and your efficiency. Looking at the history, we see that the inventor of kanun and ud, the well-known musicologist Farabi, makes the people fist laugh and then cry with his instrument. Furthermore, musicologists have proven that certain modes of Turkish music help to cure various illnesses. In short, as TII, we would be very glad to improve the efficiency of the insurance sector with our chorus established to be a part of the insurance sector and through the use of music.”
