TII Turkish Music Chorus, established in July with the employees of the insurance sector had its first concert on October 6th at Milli Re Conference Hall as a part of TII Graduation Ceremony with Istanbul Songs as it was the liberation day for Istanbul. TII Chorus, which had a successful performance with two months of rehearsals, won high praises from the audience.
Sigortacı Gazetesi, transmitting news that are serious, impartial and supportive of the development of the sector, provided TII Basic Insurance Training Programme students with free subscription. We thank them for this contribution on behalf of our Institute and our students.
The graduation ceremony of the 25th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme, continuing since its establishment, took place on October 6 at Milli Re Conference Hall. The graduation ceremony of 88 students has brought together high level officials from insurance and finance sector, TII students and lecturers. Furthermore, TII Chorus, established in July, gave its first concert in the Graduation Ceremony. The concert with Istanbul Songs, as it was the liberation day for Istanbul, won high praises from the audience.
Turkish insurance sector, which rapidly grows and flourishes, attracts the attention of various institutions and organizations from Europe to Asia. As being one of these organizations, Malaysian Insurance Institute has visited Institute on October 15, 2008, in order to get to know the Turkish insurance sector and TII more closely.

2008-2009 26th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme, from which approximately 20 percent of Turkish insurance sector have graduated, has begun with the Orientation Meeting on October 10. The opening remarks of the meeting in which the new students, lecturers and TII staff has gathered, was delivered by TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özyüksel made a presentation on the structure and activities of the Institute and wished success for all the students of the new term. Following Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel, Head of TII Education Unit, Sema Bilgin, informed the students on the content, curriculum and lecturers of Basic Insurance Training Programme. TII Basic Insurance Training Programme will have two sessions as morning and evening. Covering six branches fire and engineering, casualty, marine, accountancy, health, life insurance, the morning and evening sessions have begun on October 13 and 15 respectively. The programme will be completed in the second half of June 2009.
TII has launched its second Seminar Series on October 17, with the seminar of former Chairman of eficert -(European Financial Certification Organization). The seminar on “Intermediaries in European Insurance Market and Vocational Training for Intermediaries” took place at Milli Re Conference Hall.
Turkish Insurance Institute, has organized Agricultural Insurance Training Programe in cooperation with Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM). In the 28-hours training programme, taking place between October 11-18, Haşim Altınözlü, Necati İçer, Ertuğrul Çelik, Orhan Sarıtepe, Ümit Dalan and Elif Yüce, from the managers of TARSİM have given lectures. The subjects included in the programme: Risk Management in Agriculture, Agricultural Insurance Legislation, Agricultural Insurance, Practices of Agricultural Insurance, Vegetable Product Insurance, Animal Life Insurance
Short Term Training Programmes, prepared for the last quarter of 2008 by TII, continue. Within the scope of the programmes that has begun in October, “Principles and Legal Decisions Concerning Carrier's Liability in Accordance with CMR and Turkish Law” by Atty. Nuray Dinçment on October 13t and “Impact of Insurance Policy Details on the Claims - Drafting Proper Policy” by Atty. Levent Gür on October 15 were given.
The second step of the Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, organized for the purpose of informing the Turkish insurance sector on the changes in the legislation and thus, to implement them has been carried out in October. 2008 Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, began on September 25 with “New Arrangements Introduced by the Regulation on Insurance Agencies and Its Consequences” training programme, continued with “Uniform Charts of Accounts, Related Insurance Accountancy and Legislation” on October 30-31. The training was given by Mr. Mustafa Hamamcıoğlu, Undersecretariat of Turkish Treasury Directorate General of Insurance Head of Branch. Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes will continue on November and December. |

Journal of Insurance Studies, published by TII, is the first and only refereed journal in Turkey on insurance in which the technical and/or theoretical issues in the agenda of the sector are analyzed.
TII Private Employment Agency is enhancing its bonds with universities educating the work force of insurance sector. In the end of process of cooperation with universities, it will be possible to contact university students and graduates directly and have access to the qualified work force that the sector needs. |

European Conference of the National Institutes for Professional Insurance Education is an annually organized Conference with the participation of insurance institutes in Europe in a closed session. Within the scope of the Conference, presentations are made on issues that are of concern to the insurance sector and exchange of information among the institutes is provided. Furthermore, the Conference establishes an important network of relations through enabling the national insurance institutes to get to know one another.
TII participated at this year’s European Financial Certification Organization (eficert) General Assembly of which it became an active member last year and which aims at bringing common standards to the vocational training of the financial services sector and awards the titles of “Financial Advisor (eficert)” and “Financial Planner (eficert)” in this regard.
The applications for the Fall 2008 actuaries examinations of CAS (Casualty Actuarial Society) and SOA (Society of Actuaries), for which TII is a regular exam centre, was closed on September 24th, 2008. Ticket of Admission and information regarding the exams will be sent to the candidates by either CAS or SOA, depending on the exams to which they applied.
