TII Chorus established in July had successful performance at its first concert

TII Turkish Music Chorus, established in July with the employees of the insurance sector had its first concert on October 6^th at Milli Re Conference Hall as a part of TII Graduation Ceremony with Istanbul Songs as it was the liberation day for Istanbul. TII Chorus, which had a successful performance with two months of rehearsals, won high praises from the audience.

The Chorus was conducted by Ayşenur Özpekel accompanied by a distinguished orchestra and emceed by Yiğit Özpekel. Ayşenur Özpekel, on behalf of the Chorus, had presented a plate to the Founding President of the Chorus, TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel.

TII shares the joy of graduation of the 25^th Term

The graduation ceremony of the 25^th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme, continuing since its establishment, took place on October 6 at Milli Re Conference Hall. The graduation ceremony of 88 students has brought together high level officials from insurance and finance sector, TII students and lecturers. Furthermore, TII Chorus, established in July, gave its first concert in the Graduation Ceremony. The concert with Istanbul Songs, as it was the liberation day for Istanbul, won high praises from the audience.

Following the speeches of TII Head of Executive Board Kemal Olgaç and TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel at the 25^th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme Graduation Ceremony, plates were presented to all the lecturers who served the Institute for five or more years.

Later on, certificates of those students who successfully completed the 25^th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme were handed out. The top student of the programme Şenay Görür, student of the Accountancy Branch and working at Koç Allianz Insurance, expressed that the training that she had for one year at TII widened her horizons and contributed to her professional development, provided the opportunity to be with lecturers who are high level executives in the sector or academicians and to make friendships with colleagues from other companies. Görür thanked TII administration, her company and all her lecturers.

Ali Serhat Solmaz from Koç Allianz Insurance has won the second and Pınar Çobanoğlu from Milli Re has won the third place at the 25^th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme. Top students of the branches are as follows: Fire and Engineering Insurance Branch: Burçin Benek from Ergo İsviçre Insurance; Casualty Insurance Branch: Melike Nur Yorulmaz from Eureko Insurance; Marine Insurance Branch: Sinem Aydın from Ergo İsviçre Insurance; Accountancy: Şenay Görür from Koç Allianz Insurance; Health Insurance Branch: Tuğrul Kalkan from Eureko Insurance; Life Insurance Branch: Bilge Furuncuoğlu from Anadolu Life and Pension.

Malaysian Insurance Institute has visited TII

Turkish insurance sector, which rapidly grows and flourishes, attracts the attention of various institutions and organizations from Europe to Asia. As being one of these organizations, Malaysian Insurance Institute has visited Institute on October 15, 2008, in order to get to know the Turkish insurance sector and TII more closely.

In the meeting TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel and International Relations Expert Özge Zihnioğlu have given detailed information to the Malaysian Insurance Institute representatives on TII structure, training programmes and activities. There was also exchange of information on the insurance sectors of both countries.

TRAININGS

26^th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme has begun

2008-2009 26^th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme, from which approximately 20 percent of Turkish insurance sector have graduated, has begun with the Orientation Meeting on October 10. The opening remarks of the meeting in which the new students, lecturers and TII staff has gathered, was delivered by TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özyüksel made a presentation on the structure and activities of the Institute and wished success for all the students of the new term. Following Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel, Head of TII Education Unit, Sema Bilgin, informed the students on the content, curriculum and lecturers of Basic Insurance Training Programme.

TII Basic Insurance Training Programme will have two sessions as morning and evening. Covering six branches fire and engineering, casualty, marine, accountancy, health, life insurance, the morning and evening sessions have begun on October 13 and 15 respectively. The programme will be completed in the second half of June 2009.

Former Chairman of eficert (European Financial Certification Organization), Thomas Kraemer was the guest of TII Seminar Series

TII has launched its second Seminar Series on October 17, with the seminar of former Chairman of eficert -(European Financial Certification Organization). The seminar on “Intermediaries in European Insurance Market and Vocational Training for Intermediaries” took place at Milli Re Conference Hall.

Mr. Kraemer, following closely and supporting the activities of TII, has introduced “eficert” at the beginning of his presentation, of which TII is among the members. In his presentation, where he gave information on the distribution channels, target groups, market shares according to the countries, the needs of the sector relating to education and EU directives on insurance intermediary, he stressed the importance of agency training for the development of the sector and thus, congratulated TII for its efforts.

In addition to being complementary to the “Basic Insurance Training Programme”, TII seminars are also open to the participation of the sector. The seminars organized free of charge, are highly appreciated by the sector.

Agricultural Insurance Training Programme has been organized with TII-TARSİM cooperation

Turkish Insurance Institute, has organized Agricultural Insurance Training Programe in cooperation with Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM). In the 28-hours training programme, taking place between October 11-18, Haşim Altınözlü, Necati İçer, Ertuğrul Çelik, Orhan Sarıtepe, Ümit Dalan and Elif Yüce, from the managers of TARSİM have given lectures. The subjects included in the programme: Risk Management in Agriculture, Agricultural Insurance Legislation, Agricultural Insurance, Practices of Agricultural Insurance, Vegetable Product Insurance, Animal Life Insurance

Short Term Training Programmes continue

Short Term Training Programmes, prepared for the last quarter of 2008 by TII, continue. Within the scope of the programmes that has begun in October, “Principles and Legal Decisions Concerning Carrier's Liability in Accordance with CMR and Turkish Law” by Atty. Nuray Dinçment on October 13t and “Impact of Insurance Policy Details on the Claims - Drafting Proper Policy” by Atty. Levent Gür on October 15 were given.

Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes continue

The second step of the Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, organized for the purpose of informing the Turkish insurance sector on the changes in the legislation and thus, to implement them has been carried out in October. 2008 Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, began on September 25 with “New Arrangements Introduced by the Regulation on Insurance Agencies and Its Consequences” training programme, continued with “Uniform Charts of Accounts, Related Insurance Accountancy and Legislation” on October 30-31. The training was given by Mr. Mustafa Hamamcıoğlu, Undersecretariat of Turkish Treasury Directorate General of Insurance Head of Branch. Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes will continue on November and December.

We are expecting your articles for the 5^th issue of Journal of Insurance Studies

Journal of Insurance Studies, published by TII, is the first and only refereed journal in Turkey on insurance in which the technical and/or theoretical issues in the agenda of the sector are analyzed.

In the “Articles Approved by the Science Committee” section of the journal, there are the articles written in accordance with the academic rules and qualified to be published by the Science Committee. In the “Articles not Submitted for the Approval of the Science Committee”, there are research, studies, analyses and interpretations of the academicians, bureaucrats, experts, students of insurance and actuary, which are approved by the editor. Articles relating to the issues and problems of the insurance sector in your country and in your region are welcomed. You may submit your articles in English, French or German.

TII Private Employment Agency cooperates with the universities

TII Private Employment Agency is enhancing its bonds with universities educating the work force of insurance sector. In the end of process of cooperation with universities, it will be possible to contact university students and graduates directly and have access to the qualified work force that the sector needs.

In this framework, TII Private Employment Agency will organize seminars at the universities for the purpose of enhancing the awareness on insurance and inform the students about the sector. Together with these seminars, the young actors of the sector will be informed on the sector and on insurance and a qualified infrastructure will be founded for the employment of the sector.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS - PROJECTS

TII presented its activities and Turkish insurance sector to the insurance institutes in Europe

European Conference of the National Institutes for Professional Insurance Education is an annually organized Conference with the participation of insurance institutes in Europe in a closed session. Within the scope of the Conference, presentations are made on issues that are of concern to the insurance sector and exchange of information among the institutes is provided. Furthermore, the Conference establishes an important network of relations through enabling the national insurance institutes to get to know one another.

Actively participating at the Conference since 2007, TII was invited to make a presentation at the 2008 Conference hosted by Stockholm School of Economics in Riga on October 10-11. In this regard, TII International Relations Expert Özge Zihnioğlu’s presentation on TII’s activities as well as on Turkish insurance sector, which is in the interest of the foreign insurance institutes as much as foreign investors was very much appreciated by the participants.

TII participated at the eficert General Assembly

TII participated at this year’s European Financial Certification Organization (eficert) General Assembly of which it became an active member last year and which aims at bringing common standards to the vocational training of the financial services sector and awards the titles of “Financial Advisor (eficert)” and “Financial Planner (eficert)” in this regard.

During this year’s General Assembly, eligibility criteria concerning European Certificate for Insurance Intermediaries in addition to the Financial Advisor and Financial Planner Certificates were in the agenda. Efforts are under way for TII to award these certificates.

Attention to Those Who Will Take the CAS and SOA Exams

The applications for the Fall 2008 actuaries examinations of CAS (Casualty Actuarial Society) and SOA (Society of Actuaries), for which TII is a regular exam centre, was closed on September 24th, 2008. Ticket of Admission and information regarding the exams will be sent to the candidates by either CAS or SOA, depending on the exams to which they applied.
