TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna ÖZYÜKSEL OKSAY, Head of Education Unit Ms. Sema BİLGİN and Head of Marketing and Communications Unit Mrs. Nurhan SÜTLAŞ and TII Loss Adjusters Committee has met for the breakfast. In
this meeting, to which the members of TII Loss Adjusters Committee,
Yalçın KAYA, Fikret GÜLBAHAR, Sadık TARTICI, İsmail Cem ÜNEŞİ, Mehmet
KANYILMAZ participated, views were exchanged on TII activities,
trainings in general and trainings planned for loss adjusters in
particular.
Serving the Turkish insurance sector with its training programmes, research and projects for 38 years, TII organizes Seminar Series, open to all from the sector, free of charge and which continue with the deep interest of the sector. “TII 2008 Seminar Series”, organized for the first time this year in February and March and 9 in total, are open to the participation of the sector actors as well as being complementary to the “Basic Insurance Training Programme”.
The first guest of the Seminar Series was the General Manager of Anadolu Insurance, Mr. Mustafa Ali SU, who attracted high attention of the insurance sector. Mr. Su discussed the function of the sales intermediaries in insurance sales, their structure in the sector and their role in sales.
TII 2008 Seminar Series continued with the seminar presented by Mr. Ahmet GENÇ, General Director of Insurance at Turkish Treasury on February 13th. Dr. Genç had a presentation on the “Evaluation of the Development of Turkish Insurance Sector and Its Harmonization with the EU”. He informed the sector on the justification of the new code and its essentials within the framework of the EU harmonization process.
The seminar on February 20, was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reha YOLALAN, Vice President of Tekfen Holding, responsible from Corporate Affairs, on “Financial Intermediaries Function and Integration Process in the Turkish Banking System”. In the seminar, he focused on the financial intermediaries and their function, Turkish banking system and comparisons, and gave examples from his personal experience from the sector. The seminar was concluded with questions coming from the participants.
Another seminar organized in February was given by the EU Expert, Mr. Can BAYDAROL, Ph.D. on February 22nd. Mr. Baydarol examined the strategic position of Turkey during the EU harmonization process in his presentation titled “Today and Tomorrow of Turkey-EU Relations Central to the Perception of Global Problems”.
The participants were deeply interested in the seminar. Fifth of the TII 2008 Seminar Series was presented by TII Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suna ÖZYÜKSEL OKSAY on “Mortgage Insurance and Its Application to Turkey: General Conditions for Payment Insurance”. Özyüksel discussed in detail the actors of mortgage finance, striking statistics on mortgage system, and comparative mortgage insurance practices in Turkey and in the West. Özyüksel also answered the questions on Mortgage Insurance, which is a new product in Turkey.
The final seminar of February was given by the Prof. Dr. Orhan GÜVENEN, Bilkent University lecturer, former President of Turkish Statistical Institute and former Undersecretary of State Planning Organization. Güvenen, who also worked as the Council Member of International Statistical Institute and who was one of the two people nominated to ISI Chairmanship for 2009 by the “Election Committee”, explained the practices in Turkey and in the world on measurement techniques, information systems and decision interaction, after touching upon the importance of statistics.

TII began announcing its Short Term Training Programmes quarterly to enable all sector actors to derive benefits and plan their trainings more actively. With this new practice of 2008, the programmes started in the second week of February. The trainings continue with the participation of all the related parties. The trainings, ranging over a wide field such as engineering, fire, motor, health insurance, accountancy, insurance sales and soft skills, are delivered by academicians and members of the sector who are experts in their field. Different from 2007, TII has increased the number of training programmes and expanded its teaching staff per quarter. TII is preparing the schedule of its Short Term Training Programmes of the second quarter based on the demand coming from the participants for new training programmes, as TII does with all its training programmes. TII continues the “Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes” in 2008, which are prepared for the purpose of accelerating the harmonization of the Turkish insurance sector with the EU, informing the sector on the legislation passed in this process and facilitating the transition process. In this respect, the first of the Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes in 2008 was delivered on February 19-20-21. “Technical Reserves and Turkish Financial Reporting Standards 4 / Insurance Contracts” training programme was given by Turkish Accounting Standards Board Member of Advisory Committee and Undersecretariat of Turkish Treasury Insurance Supervisory Expert Mr. Metin SARIASLAN, Ph.D

Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

TII has published the Conference Book of the 3rd National Insurance Symposium, titled “Turkish Insurance Sector in 2010”, organized in cooperation with the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey in October 18th, 2007, for the purpose of sharing the presentations of the Symposium with more people. The
book includes the presentations on “Global Warming and Turkish Insurance
Sector” of the First Session, presentations on “Mortgage and Mortgage
Insurance” of the Second A Session and presentations on “Evaluation of
Insurance Law and Related Regulations from the Perspective of the
Development of Insurance Sector” of the Second B Session. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

To set its TII drafts a project for the European Commission, Active Labour Market Measures Grant Scheme-2008, taking into consideration the results of the questionnaire that it prepared last month, titled “Increased Employment of the Women in the Turkish Insurance Sector”. Analyzing the results of the questionnaire together with the priorities of the Grant Scheme, TII, in the project proposal, aims at training the unemployed women to meet the demand for interim-staff that the sector needs.
Projects directed at the employment of women and young people in Turkey
will benefit from the grant, 16,000,000 € in total, as required by
Turkish Employment Agency, which is responsible for the technical
monitoring and implementation of the grant scheme.
Applications for actuary exams of SOA (Society of
Actuaries) and CAS (Casualty Actuaries Society), known as awarding the
internationally recognized actuary titles, for 2008 Spring Term continue.
The exam schedule of SOA and CAS, for which TII acts as a regular exam
centre, is given below.
