A major progress in the sector and university cooperation: TSEV Insurance and Actuary Education Summit |
According to a survey carried out by our Institute in 2007-2008 on “Enhancing the Employment Quality of Turkish Insurance Sector”, approximately 180 people from undergraduate programmes and 1000 people from vocational high schools. However, the percentage of these people in insurance companies are 1-3%. In consequence, our Institute with its key role in securing university-sector cooperation, will organize a summit in gaining the qualified work force to the sector in relation to sectoral competition and within the framework of global crisis. The summit will be held on 5th of June.
At the “TII 1st INSURANCE AND ACTUARY TRAINING SUMMIT”, the heads of education and HR units of insurance sector as well as the managers of the related departments of universities will come together and discuss the employment problems of the sector and the educational problems of the universities.

TII Alumni is established |
In order to have our graduates socialize with those people that you may not meet outside of your business connections, establish platforms for the new comers of the sector to benefit from the experiences of those well-experienced people increases the interest to and the sense of belonging in the insurance sector, our Institute has established TII Alumni. TII Alumni, which will be composed of graduates of TII Basic Insurance Training Programme will bring together its members through meetings, trips, cultural and sport activities and will serve as a means to refresh the old friendships.
Besides, the members of the TSEV alumni association will be able to enjoy discounts (10% for the Short – term education programs; 20% for their purchases of TSEV publications; 20% for the membership of the TSEV Turkish Musical Choir; and 10% for the enrollment of the Nature Photography Course) for the TSEV activities.

Nature Photography training programme has begun |
|
Our initiatives, as Turkish Insurance Institute, started last year in order to bring together those working for different companies and branches and to enjoy our time, have been greatly appreciated by you. TII Turkish Music Chorus established in July 2008 continues its rehearsals. Turkish Insurance Sector Bowling League, began in January and will be completed in May and in which we experience the taste of competition with joy, has attracted a similar attention by you. Based on the demand coming from you, we are introducing a new social activity: Nature Photography Training Programme.
The objective of this programme is to provide the necessary basic information to be able to photograph in an acceptable manner the beauties seen by the lovers of the nature trekking and observing the nature. On the other hand, those who are more experienced on this subject will have the opportunity to learn new ideas and techniques and they will realize a noticeable improvement.
Apart from such valuable information on different habitats (wetlands, forests, fields, mountains, shores, sand dunes etc.), the programme given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serhan Oksay, a leading expert on nature photography, includes field guides and, proper dressing. The programme will also provides useful information regarding cameras and supplementary equipments will be provided bearing in mind the ongoing developments in technology.

Private Pension Insurance Companies got together at TII Education and HR Platform |
|
The 2nd Private Pension Companies Education and HR Platform organized by TII took place on April 14th together with the participation of heads of education and HR units of insurance companies. Education and HR Platforms have become a meeting point in which the sectoral problems are discussed and evaluated with solution oriented approaches by heads of education and HR units. Exchanges of ideas on the training needs of private pension companies and TII e-Basic Insurance Training Programme were carried out and questions regarding Agency Training Programme were answered. The two other platforms that will be carried out in 2009 are: Private Pension Insurance Companies Education and HR Platform on November 3rd; Elementary Insurance Companies Education and HR Platform on November 10th.

TII Education Seminars continued in April as well |
19th Education Seminar at Cumhuriyet University sponsored by “Finans Pension and Life Insurance" attracted high attention of the students
19th Education Seminar, aiming at increasing the quality of insurance training in Turkey and enhancing the university-sector cooperation, was carried out on April 17th at Cumhuriyet University Zara Ahmet Çuhadaroğlu Vocational High School with the sponsorship Finans Pension and Life Insurance Company. Atty. Nuray Dinçment discussed the “Insurance Law no. 5684 and the Innovation It Brought to Turkish Insurance Sector”, Finans Pension and Life Insurance Company Corporate Sales Manager Özlem Baydar presented the “Private Pension System” and TII Head of Education Unit Sema Bilgin talked on “Turkish Insurance Sector Institutions and TII”. The sector actors, managers of the vocational high school, teachers as well as the students.
20th Education Seminar was given at Dumlupınar University Applied Sciences High School with the sponsorship of Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey
20th Education Seminar, aiming at increasing the quality of insurance training in Turkey and enhancing the university-sector cooperation, was carried out on April 22nd at Dumlupınar University Simav Vocational High School with the sponsorship Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey. Insurance Loss Adjuster Engin Özaydın, Marmara University Research Assistant İskender Demirbilek and TII Head of Communication and Marketing Unit Nurhan Sütlaş attended the seminar as a speaker. ““Turkish Insurance Sector Institutions and TII”, “Loss Adjuster Profession” and “Historical Development of Insurance in the World and in Turkey” were the titles of the presentations on the seminar.
 
21st Education Seminar was carried out at Akdeniz University with the sponsorship of “Anadolu Anonim Turkish Insurance Company” 21st Education Seminar, aiming at increasing the quality of insurance training in Turkey and enhancing the university-sector cooperation, was carried out on April 28th at Akdeniz University Social Sciences Vocational High School. At the seminar, TII Lecturer Osman Yücesan had a presentation on “Development of Insurance in Turkey and in the World”, Representation of Anadolu Insurance Mediterranean Region Tibet Turan had a presentation on “Basic Insurance Training” and TII Head of Education Unit Sema Bilgin discussed “Turkish Insurance Sector Institutions and TII”. Students from Banking and Insurance Department attended the seminar. At the end of the seminar a booklet including the presentations of the seminar were disseminated to the students.

At the University Seminars aiming to raise consciousness for insurance, students have met with the insurance business |
A Seminar on Increasing the Awareness of Consumers on Insurance was given in Van with the sponsorship of “Garanti Pension and Life Insurance”
The 2nd University insurance awareness seminar, acting in accordance with its mission to raise inform the people on insurance and introduce the products and thus increase their awareness, was carried out at Van 100. Yıl University Administrative and Financial Sciences Unit, with the sponsorship of Garanti Pension and Life Insurance Company. The seminar on April 8th included presentations of Atty. Nuray Dinçment on “Controlling the Risks We Face in Our Lives through Insurance”, Garanti Pension Planning Manager Göktuğ Salih Acar on “Private Pension System”, TII Head Communication and Marketing Unit Nurhan Sütlaş on “Turkish Insurance Sector Institutions and TII”. Deputy Rector of the University and Deputy Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Duran Polat, faculty staff and students attended the seminar.
A Seminar on Increasing the Awareness of Consumers on Insurance was given in Ordu University with the sponsorship of “Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey”
The third of the insurance awareness raising seminars was carried out at Ordu University Ünye Administrative and Financial Sciences Department with the sponsorship of the Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey. The seminar which took place on April 29th included presentations of Marmara University Law Faculty lecturer as well TII lecturer Prof. Dr. Selim Ataergin on “Intermediaries in Turkish Insurance Sector”, Demir Insurance Casualty Department Director Hakan Özcan, Ph.D. on “Insurance and Us”, TII Head of Communications and Marketing Unit Nurhan Sütlaş on “Turkish Insurance Sector Institutions and TII”. Faculty staff and students attended the seminar as participants. The successful seminar was completed with the questions of students on insurance sector.

The insurance sector has shown great interest in TSEV Seminar Series |
Crimes of corruption in insurance and false papers has been one of the most interesting subjects of TII Seminar Series
One of the most interesting seminars of TII Seminar Series have been the one including the presentation on ”Crimes of Corruption in Insurance, Real-Life Examples and Precautions” by Cengiz Gumustus and ”Use of Technology in Analzying False Papers” by Ismail Ozkan.
The seminar on March 24th included hints regarding corruption on documents such as driving license, cetificates with applied examples.
Astrology and Its Link to Career seminar directed the sector employees’ career plans in 2009
Complementing the Basic Insurance Training Programme and carried out free of charge with the participant of sector employees, the second of the TII Seminar Series was carried out this year. The seminars, which had begun on March 4th, was completed on March 31st with the seminar on Astrology and Its Link to Career by Meltem Sözübir.
TII Seminar Series which attracted high attention of the sector was completed on March 31st with the seminar given by Meltem Sözübir on “Astrology and Its Link to Career”. According to Sözübir, even though astrology is degraded to daily horoscopes under the influence of dogmatic ideas and popular culture, it has been an important source of information and awarness for thousands of years. The career interpretation of the zodiacs of Sözübir was found very interesting by the participants.

Internal Systems in Insurance Sector Training Programme is on May 27th |
Completing the month of February with 3 Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, Turkish Insurance Institute continues its Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes on May 27th with “Internal Systems in Insurance Sector”. In this training, which will be given by Undersectretariat of Turkish Treasury, Directorate General for Insurance Head of Department Şule Avcıoğlu, the new changes in the related regulations on internal systems in insurance.

We are expecting your articles for the 6th issue of Journal of Insurance Studies |
Journal of Insurance Studies, published by TII, is the first and only refereed journal in Turkey on insurance in which the technical and/or theoretical issues in the agenda of the sector are analyzed.
In the “Articles Approved by the Science Committee” section of the journal, there are the articles written in accordance with the academic rules and qualified to be published by the Science Committee. In the “Articles not Submitted for the Approval of the Science Committee”, there are research, studies, analyses and interpretations of the academicians, bureaucrats, experts, students of insurance and actuary, which are approved by the editor. Articles relating to the issues and problems of the insurance sector in your country and in your region are welcomed. You may submit your articles in English, French or German.

TII Career has introduced the insurance business to the students of İstanbul Ar-El University, Kadir Has University and Beykent University |
TII Private Employment Agency TIICareer, established by Turkish Insurance Institute last year, continued to attend the Career Days of the universities organized by their Career Centers and student associations.
The presentation carried out by TII Head of Communications and Marketing Unit Nurhan Sütlaş and TIICareer Unit Junior Expert Batuhan Özgün, at İstanbul Ar-El University was found very interesting by the students. At the end of the seminar, Sütlaş has answered the questions of the students on insurance sector and insurance business.
The guest speaker of TIICareer at the Career Day of Kadir Has University on April 1st was Cem Yalçın Bayer, Head of Education Unit at AvivaSa Pension and Life Insurance. After his presentation on insurance profession, career opportunities in the sector and AvivaSa’s HR career planning, performance evaluation and training policies, Bayer answered students’ questions. The presentation of TII Head of Communications and Marketing Nurhan Sütlaş and TIICareer Unit Junior Expert Batuhan Özgün at the Career Day of Beykent University on April 28th in which the students of Banking and Insurance Department and other departments attended.
