Turkish Insurance Institute 2nd Bowling League kicks-off in January |
|
TII Bowling League, which was held in 2009 for the first time, will be organized once again between January and May, 2010. Upon the request from the participant companies, this year, the league will be played over 7 games, which was 5 last year, and the number of players will be limited with 5 in each team. Moreover, “High Score” and “High Strike” are included to award categories.
The league will start on 13th of January and games will take place once in every three weeks on Wednesdays until the final game on 18th of May. Participants will compete in individual and collective categories through the league, of which the rules of professional leagues are adopted. High interest is expected this year to the league where 24 teams competed last year.

Students of the Baskent University, Department of Insurance and Risk Management visited the TII in order to have an overall knowledge concerning general structure and the institutions of the sector. Students were welcomed at TII and equipped with extensive knowledge on TII’s services by the Education Unit. Thus, students had a chance to get comprehensive information about trainings in branches in which they were interested.

Applications start for 2010 Short Term Training Programmes |
|
Applications have started for 2010 Short Term Training Programmes, which have been announced annually in order to support the training plannings of the insurance companies and which have been launched with multiple dates for each programme offering sector professionals another chance in case they miss a training programme.
In a short period, online applications can be made through TII’s web page where annual schedule of the programme has already been posted. Until that time, interested parties may send their applications through fax or e-mail by considering that dead-line for any programme is applied one week earlier than actual date of the programme.

The First Two Programmes of 2010 Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes will be held in January and February |

According to the schedule announced for the first two programmes of 2010 Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, “Life Insurance Legislation in Accordance with New Regulations” will take place on 28th of January, and “Credit Life Assurance Legislation in Accordance with New Regulations” on 15th of February.

Actuary Oriented Training Programme Begins |
Turkish Insurance Institute will launch Actuary Oriented Training Programme in January. The programme which is composed of five modules contains Probability and Statistic (16-20 January), Mathematics (1-18 February), Basic Insurance (22-25 February), Financial Mathematics (t.b.a) and Basic Economy (t.b.a).

TII organized a training seminar in cooperation with Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Northern Cyprus for insurers in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on 10th of December.
Mr. Ülker Fahri, the Chairman of Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Northern Cyprus, expressed that subjects covered at the seminar were determined upon sector’s demands. Following a brief presentation regarding TII’s structure and activities by Ms. Sema Bilgin, TII Head of Education Unit, Att. Nuray Dincment, TII instructor, made a presentation on the subjects of Arbitration System, Recourse, Insurance Agents and Relevant Regulations during the seminar.

Insurance Underwriting Process Training Seminar has been completed |

The graduates of the Basic Insurance Training Programme, which is accredited with Chartered Insurance Institute, has completed Insurance Underwriting Process training programme as one of the extra course to obtain “Certificate in Insurance”.
In case that the graduates who participated the programme on 18th, 19th and 25th of December, succeed the exam to be held in January, as well as a successful completion of “Insurance Legal and Regulatory” e-learning programme provided by CII, they will become eligible to apply for CII accreditation.
TII has been working on providing further courses in order to pave the way for its graduates to be qualfied for “Diploma in Insurance”.

TII’s efforts on global warming take place in CEA Report |
|
European Insurance and Reinsurance Federation allocated a section for TII, which prepared an Environmental Policy in the scope of activities in global warming and its effects on insurance sector, in the section of “The Role of the Insurance Industry” in its “Tackling Climate Change / The Vital Contribution of Insurers” report.
The report mentions about TII, which has adopted an environmental policy as a first step towards raising climate change risk awareness. Under this policy, the TII has committed to carrying out research, organising conferences and seminars, preparing publications and keeping environmental problems on the agenda of the insurance sector:
- TII complies with environmental legislation and approved codes of practice and improves them. It is committed to ensuring that international agreements, such as the Kyoto Protocol, and standards are adopted in Turkey;
- Communicates with relevant bodies such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Global Compact and adopts the principles set by these organisations;
- Raises staff awareness of environmental issues; and takes measures to reduce electricity and water consumption and to recycle.
- It also aims to calculate greenhouse gas emissions, takes measures to reduce them and plant trees to offset it.
