TII, serving Turkish insurance sector with the research and projects that it carries out besides the trainings that it offers for 37 years, will launch its Seminar Series covering 9 subjects. The seminars, launched for the first time this year and is complemental to the 25th Term Basic Insurance Training Programme, will be open to the participation of the sector. Within the scope of the seminars, organized free of charge by TII, well-known and well-qualified experts will take the floor. TII Seminar Series will commence on February 5th and will finish on March 13th.

Together with the Communication that it adopted on December 2007 on Financial Education, European Commission has underlined the support that it gives to provide financial education to those that are in need. The
Communication states the increasing importance of financial education
and sets the personal, economic and social benefits that it will entail.
This Communication also defines some basic rules for those that will
provide financial education in the European Union. Another important
point in the Communication is the certain initiatives that may be
carried out in the future. These initiatives include the establishment
of a network among the financial education providers, organization of
conferences on the related subjects, formation of an online database and
development of a module for the trainers of financial education.

Insurance Institute participated in the Insurance Loss Adjusters
Assembly organized by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of
Turkey on January 26-27, on behalf of Insurance Loss Adjusters Executive
Committee. TII Head of Marketing and Communications Unit Mrs. Nurhan
Sütlaž and Head of Education Unit Ms. Sema Bilgin, who participated in
the Assembly, have informed the loss adjusters on TII training
programmes and its other activities. Insurance loss adjusters were very

TII
began 2008 by widening the spectrum of its training programmes. New
Short Term Training Programmes that will be given in February, March and
April within the scope of TII Training Programmes, which are to be
arranged quarterly as of this year, are announced to the related sectors.
In this new term, while new lecturers are included in TII’s teaching
staff, the courses are diversified and their outlines are broadened.
Trainings, expanding over a wide range of areas including engineering,
fire, motor, health insurance; accountancy; insurance sales process;
personal development; legal practice, aim at reaching a larger group of
people and meeting their needs.
TII will continue its “Legislation Harmonization Programmes” on February as well, which are prepared for the purpose of accelerating the harmonization of the Turkish insurance sector with the EU, informing the sector on the legislation passed in this process and facilitating the transition process. TII will provide “Technical Reserves and Turkish Financial Reporting Standards 4 / Insurance Contracts” training programme to facilitate the adaptation to the new accountancy system that began with the Technical Reserves Regulation and Turkish Accountancy Standards / Turkish Financial Reporting Standards, which went into force in January 1st 2008. The training, which will be on February 19-20-21 to ensure better understanding of the new examples and the practices, will be given by the Insurance Supervisory Board Expert at the Undersecretariat of Turkish Treasury and Turkish Accounting Standards Board Member of Advisory Committee Metin SARIASLAN, Ph.D.

European Commission has granted 16,000,000 € to Turkish Employment Agency within the framework of Active Labor Market Measures Grant Scheme. Turkish Employment Agency has decided to distribute this grant to the organizations developing projects to increase the employment rate of women and young people.TII is drafting a project, in order for the insurance sector to benefit from this Grant Scheme. The project aims to find solution to meet the need for qualified staff and within the scope of this Project, provide free trainings, to those that the sector wants to employ. TII
prepared a questionnaire titled “Increased Employment of the Women in
the Turkish Insurance Sector”, for the purpose of determining the
expectations of the insurance sector actors on women employment, so as
to ensure the best possible outcome of the Project. The questionnaire is
mailed to the actors of the sector. The trainings are designed based on
the responses received.
TII
extended its services to insurance sector to include research and
analyses on various subjects as well as market research for sector
actors. The studies will be carried out by experts of each subject.

SOA (Society of Actuaries) and CAS (Casualty Actuaries Society), known as awarding the internationally recognized actuary titles, have announced the 2008 Spring Term exam schedule. The exam schedule of SOA and CAS, for which TII acts as a regular exam centre, is given below.
