Istanbul is the host of this year’s IME Congress Series |
13th International Congress on Insurance: Mathematics and Economics (IME 2009) will be organized in Istanbul Turkey on May 27-29, 2009, the Organization Committee of which includes Ankara University, Turkish Statistical Association and the Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey besides our Institute. Secretary General of he Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey Mr. Erhan Tunçay and Director of Turkish Insurance Institute Prof. Dr. Suna Özyüksel are in the Organization Committee.
IME 2009 Congress, bringing together scientists, academicians and insurance sector professionals from all over the world in the area of actuarial science and insurance, focuses on the latest advances, trends and developments and in which the theory and methods of actuarial science, and its applications in insurance, finance and risk management fields will be discussed. In this respect, IME 2009 is a very important forum for the insurance sector, in which there will be a special discount in the participation fee for the representatives of insurance sector. TII Alumni is being established |
Having graduated over 2000 people since 1970, TII has begun to work on establishing its Alumni in order to enhance the communication and solidarity through gathering its graduates. In this respect, the administration of the social and cultural activities offered by TII to the sector will be carried out by a Committee composed of TII graduates working at insurance companies, agencies, loss adjusters as well as TII representatives.
Members of TII Alumni will be the graduates of TII Basic Insurance Training Programme and those who have completed 200 credits from Short Term Training Programmes. The members will benefit from the social, cultural and sports activities with a discount and will be able to participate at the meetings with the high ranking officials of the insurance sector.

Sports, fun and competition met at the first round of Turkish Insurance Sector Bowling League |
|
Employees of the insurance sector gathered at the “Turkish Insurance Sector Bowling League” organized by TII in June. Players have displayed a very high performance in the games in which 24 teams take place.
Anadolu Insurance won the first plae, Allianz second place and Garanti Life and Pension third place at the end of the first round. The second round of the league will take place on February 12, Thursday at 19.00, at the Korukent Bowling hall.
The league, which has begun in January, will be completed in May with the final game. The league is organized through modeling the professional leagues. The companies participate with teams of six players. Ak Insurance, Allianz Insurance, Anadolu Insurance, CIV Life Insurance, Doğan Insurance and Reinsurance Broker, Ergo İsviçre Insurance, Eureko Insurance, Garanti Life and Pension, Genel Yaşam Insurance, Generali Insurance, Işık Insurance, Vakıf Penison, Ray Insurance, Agricultural Insurance Pool, Tekfen Insurance Broker, Turkish Insurance Institute, Association of the Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Turkey, Yapı Kredi Insurance, Yapı Kredi Pension, Zurich Insurance take place at the league.

Short Term Training Programmes continue |
TII announced the first quarter of 2009 training programmes. The training programmes of the first quarter, covering January-February-March, include mostly the technical issues. The training programmes have commenced on January 29 and will be completed on March 26. There are 27 trainings in this quarter in which there are new subjects and lecturers.

Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes continue |
The first round of 2009 Legislation Harmonization Training Programmes, aiming to inform the insurance sector on the changes of legislation and assist them to implement these, is announced on January. The programmes of this term cover 4 different subjects. The first training is on February 11 with Internal Systems in Insurance Sector training programme. The programme will be given by Şule Avcıoğlu, Undersecretariat of Treasury Head of Department and it will cover the recent changes in the legislation. Technical Reserves Allocated by Insurance and Reinsurance Companies and Tax Legislation training programme, which will be given by Nedim Türkmen, Ph.D., will be followed by General Clauses of Policies, Special Clauses of Policies, Attached Clauses and Principles to be Taken into Account in Paying Insurance Claims According to the New Insurance Law and the Principles Important for the Supreme Court training programme and Private Pension System, Changing Code of Insurance Intermediaries and Agency Legislation given by Atty. Nuray Dinçment.

“E-Basic Insurance Training Programme” begins on March with the cooperation of Turkish Insurance Institute and Element Training Technologies |
Our Institute, the first and only international training and research centre of Turkish insurance sector has cooperated with Element Training Technologies, well-known with its e-training programmes, for “e-Basic Insurance Training Programme” project.
The courses of the training programme, prepared according to the needs of those who work for or who are planning to work for insurance sector, will be given by experts and sector professionals. E-Basic Insurance Training Programme is composed of Basic Insurance Training, Fire-Engineering Insurance Branch and Casualty Insurance Branch.

“Turkish Insurance Sector Mid-Term Development Expectations” book is published (only in Turkish) |
TII continues its research and publications on insurance for the purpose of enhancing the competitiveness of Turkish insurance sector through composing sectoral information which is accessible and easy to share.
In this respect, 13th book of the Research and Studies on Insurance Series is published. Based on its mission to support the development of the insurance sector, TII had Mr. Nihat Kamuran Malatyalı prepare the study on “Turkish Insurance Sector Mid-Term Development Expectations” for the purpose of assisting,
- the insurance companies to prepare their investment plans,
- new foreign companies that seek to enter the market to have a foresight,
- actors of Turkish economy to see the course of the economic development.
In our publication, the development expectation of Turkish insurance sector between 2008-2012 is analyzed with respect to two scenarios as including and not including the impact of the crisis.

“Importance of Financial Education for Individual Investors” book is published (only in Turkish) |
Financial education, enabling an accurate evaluation of financial risk and opportunities, has gained importance with rapidly developing financial services sector and accordingly increased number of products and services. Aware of its corporate social responsibility, our Institute has allocated the 14th book of the Research and Studies on Insurance Series to this subject in order to raise the awareness of Turkish society on financial education. “Importance of Financial Education for Individual Investors” prepared by Kadir Murat Altıntaş, Ph.D. discusses financial education with respect to individual investors, those who provide financial education services and those who are left outside the banking system.

“The Future of Agriculture and Agricultural Insurance” book is published (only in Turkish) |
Agricultural insurance is the most effective system in meeting the claims taking place as a result of the risks threatening agricultural and animal production as well as in protecting the agricultural sector. The importance of agricultural insurance has increased recently due to climate change based on global warming. Agricultural insurance is particularly important in Turkey where agriculture and animal farming is very common. In this respect the book on “The Future of Agriculture and Agricultural Insurance” prepared by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selim Çağatay and for which we allocated 15th book of the Research and Studies on Insurance Series, discusses the characteristics of agricultural markets in Turkey and in the world, the developments in these areas and the implementations as well as an analysis on the future course of agricultural insurance.
